ALERT

For UOM Users: After the Workday go-live the iLab Themis strings were migrated to the Workday FDM worktag format. However, the worktag assignment within the Lab Group was removed in the migration process. Lab Group PI or delegate to please review the worktags and assign them to the relevant Lab Members.

This will also be a good time to review the membership of your Lab Group and put end dates for the members that are no longer a part of your group.

If a worktag is missing, please raise a ServiceNow ticket https://uomservicehub.service-now.com/esc?id=sc_cat_item&sys_id=7b8de37e1b1f201cef32a68b274bcbb2 and select My request is related to = “Other” and provide the details – Company, Cost Center,Fund, Project, Program(if relevant), Region Activity and we will include the fund in iLab.

NOTE please ensure that you have assigned the worktags to the Lab Members by Friday 13 June so that Lab Members can continue to make bookings using iLab.

Melbourne Protein Characterisation

Overview of Services

The Melbourne Protein Characterisation (MPC), located within the Bio21 Institute, is a diverse facility for protein production and investigating protein quality control, molecular interactions and structural analysis. The Platform incorporates part of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation)(ACRF) Facility for Innovative Cancer Drug Discovery and forms part of the drug discovery pipeline that connects the Bio21 platforms together. MPC has 4 facilities which are Protein Production, Protein Interaction, X-ray Diffraction and Bio21-WEHI Crystallisation Facility.

The MPC capabilities include:

Protein Production & Peptide Synthesis

  • Insect and mammalian cells tissue culture
  • Microwave peptide synthesizer

Protein Interaction

  • Study of molecular binding and interactions
  • Analysis of oligomerisation and association states
  • Determination of protein size, shape and secondary structure
  • Study of heterogeneity and aggregation
  • Analysis of fluorescence and UV absorbance
  • Detection of small molecule binding

X-ray Diffraction
  • Analysis of structure for small molecules and proteins

 Crystallisation

  • Screening of initial crystallisation conditions
  • Lipid cubic phase crystallisation
  • Optimisation of Hit crystallisation conditions
  • Crystal plate imaging

Platform is open-access, offering services to both academic and industry users, including training by platform technology specialists and fee-for-service options.
